I prefer to get my blog content in RSS form rather than email. Who needs more email. I check my RSS blog information every few days and can view it when I WANT rather than when it is sent to me.
Did you two read Al's post? It's about leaving comments, not about subscribing by email or RSS.
Although I think it's kind of silly, many people prefer to subscribe to blogs by email. (They probably don't realize the efficiency that comes with reading through an RSS reader.)
As a point of reference, though, HubSpot's interent marketing blog has about 6k subscribers and 1500+ are subscribed by email. That's a big % and that's an audience that's interested in internet marketing. You'd think that it'd be much lower.
Thanks Dan and Rick for your comments.
I agree that RSS is a better way for people to subscribe to blogs. I use RSS to read blogs and encourage others to do the same.
It's much more efficient. I also am a realist and know that very few people do use RSS to read blogs, so I like that my blog
software allows people to sign up and receive my posts. I also send out my newsletter with links to my new blog articles to people
who I have met along the way. I use Constant Contact so they can opt out anytime, of course. But, I find that doing that
increases the likelihood that my blog will help me start conversations with people which may lead to me helping them with their sales challenges.
However, the point of my article was to encourage people to leave comments on blogs. Not just mine.
I tried to point out the benefit of leaving comments on blogs as it helps to start relationships, as well
gives commenters an opportunity to leave a link to their site and impress my readers with their thoughts.
